February 2022 is a month where reality starts to sink in, new collaborations are forming, mental focus is clearing, and long-term plays are being put into place.

February 1: The Aquarius New Moon

For starters, February begins with a New Moon in Aquarius on the at the 12th degree, and this New Moon will go up against serious Saturn, bringing a much-needed (and not so fun) reality check about where we are, who we are, and what we truly want to attract into this new future.

2022 is coming in hot with its first Mercury retrograde of the year! On January 14, at around 6:41 am EST, Mercury, the busybody planet of thought, communication, sound, and movement will officially begin its 3-week backspin through the cosmos until February 3. 

Now before you freak out, Mercury retrograde is not breaking news. This astronomical phenomenon happens around three times every year. So this means you’ve been around the Mercury retrograde block a couple of times. You know how to work this energy. You know how it typically plays out. 

However, like the previous two years have shown us, expect the unexpected in 2022. This year, Mercury will retrograde four times instead of its annual three. Yes, you heard me! MERCURY will retrograde four times! The January 2022 retrograde cycle is only the first of four Mercury retreats this year. 

What does Mercury mean in Astrology?

Mercury is the smallest, fastest, and innermost planet in relation to the Sun. It is named after the Roman deity Mercury, the messenger of the Gods. 

In astrology, Mercury generally represents travel, communications, information, and thought. It governs how we send, receive, and process information. Mercury influences how we interact and connect with others. 

What is Mercury retrograde? 

retrograde brings many interpretations from the astrological community. But before we talk about what this cycle means and how things are most likely going to shift, let’s make one thing clear, Mercury retrograde is not a bad thing. In fact, if you use it to your advantage, you may look back and say wow, that was actually one of my most clarifying periods all year. 

From a scientific perspective, it’s important to note that Mercury moves faster than Earth. Because of its swift nature, Mercury passes Earth three times per year in orbit. When Mercury passes Earth (which lasts about three weeks) it appears to be moving in a backward (looped) motion. This astronomical phenomenon is what the astrology community refers to as Mercury Retrograde. 

From an astrological perspective, Mercury retrograde is a time of slowdowns and refinements related to the objects, processes, and behaviors that Mercury traditionally rules. For example, computer systems, email, traffic, airplanes, physical mail, scheduling, planning, workflow, work environments, delivery – shipping times, etc. (these are all Mercury-ruled) 

Why is Mercury Retrograde Important?

Slowdowns are frustrating. As a multi-dimensional being, you live a fast-paced and interconnected life. It’s inconvenient when you experience traffic, a breakup, or a plan falls apart, but it’s not the end of the world. 

Instead of rushing through life and resisting the current lessons you are here to learn, Mercury retrograde is a quarterly reminder to lean into stillness. 

Yes, you may experience technology breakdowns, travel delays, and relationship drama, but you will survive. Think of the next three weeks as unique opportunities to review, reflect, release, and reconnect. Use this cosmic reset to refine your long-term goals.

What should I expect from the January - February 2022 Mercury Retrograde?

For the January 2022 retrograde cycle, Mercury will backpedal through two signs,  fixed air sign Aquarius and cardinal earth sign Capricorn. 

From January 14 until January 26, Mercury will retrograde through the first ten degrees of Aquarius. This team-focused transit brings intense review to unfinished group projects, website developments, digital products (especially ebooks), and community updates. If you’ve been wanting to do a technology or social media refresh, you will be more inclined to do so now. Although this may be a daunting task (tech can be so confusing), it’s important that you do the hard work before Mercury moves back into Capricorn on January 26th. 

2022 Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius Themes + Predictions: 

• Issues and unexpected opportunities with the internet, collective or community networks, platforms, learning systems, social media infrastructures

As the opposite sign of nurturing Cancer, this transit also highlights generational traditions and familial dynamics. There may be issues with power struggles, manipulation, capitalism, bankruptcy, and self-control. The goal of this transit is to identify any weak spots in your foundation and strengthen them. Do not be discouraged by limitations. You can do hard things. 

It may be helpful to ask yourself, what do long-term success and financial stability look like to me? Am I currently on the path to achieving it? If not, how do I refocus and realign with my long-term goals? 

With Venus stationing retrograde literally HOURS after the Gemini Full Moon, mental fog could be clouding your sense of rational and wise judgment. Dec 21: Capricorn Season

Relationships - Sagittarius Season 2021 

Whether you’re single, married, dating, or in between, Sagittarius Season offers many opportunities to bring some much-needed fun, clarity, and honesty to your relationships before year-end. 

Until December 13, Mars, the planet of lust and desire, will remain in sensual Scorpio. This placement makes us crave deep, intimate, and erotic partners and sexual experiences. Throw free-spirited Sag in the mix and you’ve got a wild party.

Manifesting with the Moon: The Magic Behind Each Major Lunar Phase

The Moon in Astrology: 

In astrology the Moon represents our innermost emotional nature and subconscious mind. In relation to our natal chart the moon symbolizes the Mother, or a nurturing force in our life. 

When working with the Moon for manifestation it is important to note that the Moon moves in cycles very similar to that of a woman. In astrology there are four main lunar phases that we tend to work with: the New Moon, First Quarter Moon, Full Moon, and Last (third) Quarter Moon. Each moon phase occurs on a seven-day interval making a complete lunar cycle typically four-weeks. 

Each moon phase is equipped with their own unique characteristics. They all work together to complete a unified whole. 

The Moon typically changes signs every 2-3 days. The Moon is the fastest orbiting celestial body in our solar system (hence our fast changing moodiness as humans). 

Waning and Waxing: the ebb and flow of the moon 

Before we discuss each specific Moon phase in detail it is important to understand the difference between a waxing Moon and waning Moon. 

When the moon is “waxing” it is growing brighter in illumination until the Full Moon is reached. The New Moon and First Quarter Moon are waxing phases. When the moon is waxing we are more excitable, nervous, and optimistic. The moon always waxes on the right, showing a dark shadow on the left. This is an introverted time. 

When the moon is “waning” it is reducing (dimming) into the “darkness” until the New Moon is reached. The days after a Full Moon and Last Quarter Moon are waning phases. When the moon is waning we are more reserved, tired, and satisfied. The moon always wanes on the left, showing a dark shadow on the right. This is an extroverted time. 

The Four Day rule: 

In astrology, there is a common belief (one that I have observed and stand behind) that the effects of any planetary transit, aspect, or cosmic energy is at its most intense four days before and four days after the event is said to occur. 

When manifesting or working with any celestial body or cosmic event this rule should be noted and applied. 

New Moon: a time to dream (plant the seed)

Waxing phase: During this phase the illuminated side of the moon is obscured (facing the sun). During this time we can only see the dark half of the moon. This is why it is called the New or Dark moon. The New Moon is represented by the conjunction between the Sun and Moon. 

The New Moon phase is a time of dreaming. This phase is the perfect time to plant a new seed that you would like to see blossom over the duration of the lunar cycle. This period illuminates the subconscious mind and brings new ideas to the surface. However, this is not a time to expect overnight success. This is a dark moon. Others are not as receptive to change and new ideas, but it is a perfect time to start a new cycle or project that will gain traction under the illumination of the Full Moon. Think of this as the wait and see Moon. 

Things to do under the New Moon:

• Be still and listen to your intuition. Receive any soul downloads with an open heart and mind.

• Commit to starting a new cycle in your life. 

• Be optimistic but don’t be blind. Do not sign any contracts or jump into partnerships that sound over promising. Wait it out.

• This is a test trial phase. If you want to experiment, this is the best time to do it. But don’t expect dramatic results. People tend to be in their own heads at this time. Your idea or launch may be easily misunderstood or disregarded. This same energy applies at the Last (Third) Quarter Moon 

First Quarter Moon: a time of cultivation (water the seed)

Waxing phase: During this phase of the moon, the right side of the moon is illuminated and the left side of the moon is shadowed and appears dark. The First Quarter Moon is represented by the waxing square and Sextile between the Sun and Moon. 

The First Quarter Moon phase is a time of putting the dream into motion. This phase is perfect for putting in the groundwork to making your new Moon intention a reality. More than likely whatever seed you planted will begin to gain traction under this phase, but the results and momentum will come from your own initiative. It’s important to understand that this phase promotes enthusiasm and competition. We naturally will start to attract energies that match what we are trying to create; don’t be intimidated or discouraged. Think of this attraction as Confirmation from the universe; either the idea is worth pursuing or its not. Take action if you want to see your hard work make an impact under the illumination of the Full Moon.

Things to do under the First Quarter Moon:

• Make a move. If you want something this is the moon phase to pursue it actively. 

• Avoid comparing yourself to others. Stay focused on the goals.

• If a relationship/partnership was started or expanded during the New Moon phase you will deal with obstacles now.

• This is launch time. Put your idea out there. 

Full Moon: a time to experience the dream (harvest the seed)

Waning phase: During this phase the illuminated side of the Moon is facing the Earth and the shadowed (dark) side of the Moon is facing space. In astrology, The Full Moon is represented as an opposition between the Sun and Moon. 

The Full Moon phase is a time of completion and intensity. This phase exposes the efforts of our intentions and how others (the universe) receives them. For many the Full Moon phase can represent a heightened point of tension and restlessness. The Full Moon is the perfect time to expect answers and clarity. It’s important to understand that the Full Moon is an opposition formed with the Sun. Many will feel start this cycle feeling excited, but by the end will feel exhausted and worn out. Use this period to bring the effects of your intention to light. 

Things to do under the Full Moon: 

• Ask for assistance on a situation that you need clarity on. 

• Try to stay calm and understand that things are coming into fruition. Be open to experience the fullness of this moment. 

• Be patient with others as we are all on edge and more emotional than usual.

• Celebrate. No matter what does or doesn’t happen this cycle is perfect for gatherings and group activities.

• Do not take everything so serious. Hidden secrets are coming out of the dark. Be honest and observe. 

Last Quarter Moon: a time to analyze and reflect (prepare the soil for a new harvest) 

Waning phase: During this phase of the moon, the left side of the moon is illuminated and the right side of the moon is shadowed and appears dark. The Last Quarter Moon is represented by the waning square and Sextile between the Sun and Moon.

The Last Quarter Moon phase is a time of reflection and release. Although this is a waning phase it is not one of stillness. The Last Quarter Moon is one of tying up loose ends, seeing what changes need to be made and actively making them. Whatever is finished now will expand during the next new Moon phase. During this Moon phase we may experience issues with money or debt. We are inspired to let go and release anything that weighs us down. The Last Quarter Moon phase is not the best time to launch anything new unless it is something that you announced during the First Quarter Moon phase. This is a time of cooperation and enjoyment. Think of this phase as graceful movement. Do not force. 

Things to do under the Last Quarter Moon:

• Wipe out any debt or withstanding bills. You won’t want the stress or burden during the New Moon. 

• Take time to reflect on the results of the last four weeks. What inspires you? What do you want to improve? What needs to be released? 

• Listen to the input of others. How does your New Moon intention make them feel? What changes do they suggest? Be open to compromise. 

• Make an announcement for something that you will launch during the next First Quarter or Full Moon. This is the perfect time to announce a new strategy or improvement that you noticed since the New Moon.

•  Clean out your home or living space. Seek inspiration. Prepare your soul, body, and mind to release and receive.
